Profile
Herlânder Sousa – started his musical studies at age of nine, at the Philharmonic Band Gafanhense. At thirteen was admitted in the Aveiro’s Music Conservatory, to study with Professor Ana Ribeiro, finishing this studies with an evaluation of 19 (maximum 20).
In 1997 got into Lisbon’s Superior School of Music, where he studied with Professor Olavo Barros, concluding his studies in this school.
In 1998/99 and 1999/2000 won the third prize on the Young Musicians Prize Competition (soloist level); on the Chamber Music Modality won the second place in 2001/02.
When he was 17 years old won the television program Fórum Musical.
Has been substitute of European Union Youth Orchestra when he was 20 years old.
Has often been invited by many Professional Orchestras, namely Orquestra Nacional do Porto, Remix Ensemble, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, Orquestra Sinfonietta de Lisboa, Orquestra das Beiras, and others.
Has performed as soloist with Orquestra das Beiras under direction of Patrik Gallois and with the Aveiro’s Conservatory Orchestra.
Has been often invited as first flute by Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa. In November of 2010, has performed in solo with it at Casa da Música, being conducted by Eugene Corporon, performing “The Shadow of Sirius” from Joel Pucckett (first time performed in Europe).
Was improving his studies with Vicens Prats in Paris in 2005.
Has been in many Masterclasses with international Flutists like Trevor Wye, Benoit Fromanger, William Bennett, Herbert Weissberg, Sophie Cherrier, Vicens Prats, Patick Gallois, etc.
Has participated on the enregistration of CDs with musiciens like Rui Veloso, Carlos do Carmo and Ney Matogrosso among others. Has participated on the enregistration of movies soundtracks.
